Are the demanding climatic conditions accompanying the tournament reflected in the performances a lot?

The heat is obviously unpleasant. And it is combined with getting up early. Since Wednesday, I have had an alarm clock set for four o’clock every day, which is obvious. And on Saturday, when the organizers report storms, the program starts at half past six, so we will get up at three. So I’ll have lunch and go to sleep.

Is it standard that you are on the field so early? Or is it a privilege associated with the Olympic tournament?

It’s common. At least once a week. It doesn’t seem like it, but when we start in the morning, one needs to get up about three hours in advance. We sleep very little here. But if it works for at least six hours, that’s fine. During the Olympic tournament, it’s nice that we have very nice cars on the field, so we always take a nap.

Golfer Spilková is in her twenties in the Olympic Games, led by Nelly Kordová

In the case of an ideal course, you could have moved to the top ten, but in the end you are twenty-fifth. What will you go to the final day with if the bad weather does not cancel the program?

I believe it will happen. I would very much like to win a place in the elite ten, which would be absolutely great. If the result from Rio can be improved in any way, it will be beautiful. And if I am to be the first Czech golfer to be in the Olympics around the twentieth position, I take it.

Would it upset you if the rest of the tournament was canceled due to the weather and the chances of improving the position vanished?

I would be sad. We have one more round where the order can be improved. It’s pretty crowded. And I believe I can move up.

In the trio, you went with the Korean medalist Pak In-pe during the Thursday medalist. Were you happy for such a company?

Yeah. I’ve never played with her, so I was really looking forward to it. In fact, I’ve never really seen her play. It was interesting for me to watch him play. It doesn’t give such long shots, but they are incredibly straight and precise, and they fit perfectly. So even though she didn’t quite like it on Friday, but otherwise she did. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Kordovs are played primarily by a girls’ club

Do you take it that you can still learn something, look around?

Certainly. It is not always possible to go with a player like that. I know most of the girls in the tournament, I played with most of them. But in her case, it was a premiere and it was really great. It is a rarity for me even after those years and with all the experience.

Markus Lanz goes into the summer break with his ZDF talk show. Before that – how could it be otherwise – regular guest Karl Lauterbach sat in his armchair with him. This time, the main focus was on vaccinations for children and the question of what to do in the fall if incidences are expected to rise, when part of the population is immunized and the other is not.

The Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Europe, Marco Wanderwitz, the author Lukas Rietzschel and the doctor and ethicist Christiane Woopen were also guests.

It started with the discussion about the recently introduced vaccination offer that the federal and state health ministers want to offer children from the age of twelve – without the corresponding recommendation from the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko).

SPD health expert Lauterbach had a clear opinion on this: “If we want to have a normal school year for the children (…) then that’s good news. A message that (would have) been due earlier. “

A message that can, however, also cause confusion – not least because experts do not agree on the question of how useful vaccinations are for children at all. Does the risk of a corona infection outweigh the potential vaccine side effects?

“So far, politics has always followed the Stiko in providing scientific advice on vaccination issues,” explained Lauterbach. It is now different: “To put it simply: scientifically speaking, she has cheated. She relied on other scientists. “

This creates a “catastrophic impression,” believes the moderator

“Why?” Lanz wanted to know. “Because other scientists have actually argued very strongly on the basis of studies,” says Lauterbach. “If now is the alternative, we vaccinate the children or the children are exposed to the Delta variant and we may have an infection that then the short-term and also the long-term risk of infection with the Delta variant is more dangerous than the vaccination.”

This argument only partially convinced Lanz. This creates the “catastrophic impression” that one looks for “the scientist who suits me and then I follow this or that recommendation”. It was similar with a possible third booster vaccination for already immunized. For Lauterbach, on the other hand, the matter is clear: The health ministers’ conference had “waited a long time to see if something was coming from Stiko” – but “nothing came”. However, because the school year is now beginning inappropriately, “facts have been created” – based on “very robust” scientific evidence.

For Lanz, this raised the question of how well the Stiko works.

“They did a first-class job in the past,” said Lauterbach. So earlier? Lanz asked immediately. Then the SPD politician gossiped: “That will come again.”

Well aware that he had just put the Commission in a very unfavorable light, Lauterbach added that he had only spoken from his own perspective, appreciated the Stiko, among other things, for being “completely independent” and already had “first class” from it Positions ”- all things that no one had questioned on this show.

For Lanz in any case, the answer seemed to convey a clear message: Stiko did a good job at one point and maybe will do it again at some point – but it is currently failing. Lanz then wanted to “get to the heart of the matter very briefly: If they are so often wrong, why don’t we get rid of them?”

“I am quite sure that the Stiko will come back to full bloom,” replied Lauterbach, finally dismantling the hasty attempt to put his rather harsh criticism of the commission into perspective.

“It’s all about the kids”

With that the child fell into the well. Lauterbach seemed to have seen that too. In any case, he then went on quite bluntly with criticism of the group of experts headed by its chairman Thomas Mertens. Its communication was “unhappy”, reproved Lauterbach. Mertens had presented the matter in such a way that the children were vaccinated because one could no longer make progress with the adults. “That is not correct,” said Lauterbach. “The vaccination offer that we want to give the children now is a protection offer for the children themselves. It’s all about the children. It’s not about herd immunity, it’s not about indirectly protecting the elderly or whatever. “

Ethicist Woopen saw things a little differently. Those who are not yet twelve years old do not have a vaccine that has been approved for them anyway. In her opinion, children could have been protected by “preparing schools in a completely different way”. But that hardly happened – you are now in a situation that is anything but optimal for both students and their parents. “The young people can now go to the pubs,” complained the ethicist. “But not in schools”.

When it comes to the subject of education, one has to come to the point of “having a crystal clear picture of how it should work” in the autumn. State and society owed this to their parents too. Instead, it is not even clear who needs to be quarantined in which situation and who does not. The risk for children is comparatively low.

“What is so painfully missing is the serious things agenda,” says Michael Stürmer

Lauterbach contradicted this. Studies that showed the relative harmlessness of the virus for children mostly do not refer to the Delta variant. “What we do know is that young adults, let’s say 18 to 25-year-olds, are surprisingly seriously ill with the Delta variant.” It is therefore natural to assume that this also applies to children.

The delay resulted from the fact that the Stiko was waiting for a “large data set” of almost seven million vaccinations for children and adolescents from the USA. “I agree that it went extremely badly in terms of communication,” said Lauterbach. A preliminary analysis of part of this data set showed a risk of 1: 20,000 for vaccine side effects.

“Spectacular” high incidences among non-vaccinated people

The general discussion also came about the pandemic situation in autumn and, in particular, about different rights for vaccinated and non-vaccinated people. “Of course we have to make differences,” said Lauterbach. What happens if you handle this question differently, you can currently see in Florida. The US state is one of the areas in the United States with the highest number of new infections and was explicitly reprimanded for this by President Joe Biden.

Without differentiation, Lauterbach predicted, there would be “a lot to do in the clinics again after a short time.” The R value for the delta variant is “somewhere around five and a half”. Everyone infected with this variant would therefore infect more than five other people on average. “Of course we cannot allow that”. That is why other rules are needed, for example a mandatory, self-paying PCR test for non-immunized event visitors – “it won’t work any other way”.

Lauterbach explained this on the basis of a calculation error that quickly led “laypeople” to underestimate the incidence figure, which in times of widespread vaccination was somewhat discredited. Because a seven-day incidence of 40, for example, if 70 percent of the population were vaccinated, would actually mean an incidence of 120 among the non-vaccinated part of the country. Because the numbers would presumably be “spectacularly” high thanks to Delta, this example number is still clearly too low. “And then”, says Lauterbach, “of course I can’t let them into the club on the basis of a quick test”.

Class 2002, is a central defender who has already made people speak well of himself and not only in Ecuador: someone calls him “the best central defender in perspective of all South America “. Words from the president of Talleres, the Argentine club that has held the player’s card since August 2020 and which now risks having to give in to the assault of European clubs. Last July, Hincapié also took part to America Cup with his Ecuador: despite the nineteen years, the young man was immediately deployed holder from his coach Alfaro and has never left the field. To the general surprise, Hincapié played all Ecuador matches in Copa, as owner and without ever being replaced. And above all: giving a great impression. The coach of Talleres, his club, however, has put him out of the squad pending market developments: “He must clarify his position regarding the future”: he has Europe’s eyes on him. And Napoli will try to anticipate the strong competition.

From 10 in Italy, off to -75 kg of kumite where the “Gorilla d’Avola” is the big favorite. The expectation is growing for the challenge between the two world legends

Today is the day of truth. At the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo it will be established who is the strongest of the -75 kg, the queen category of kumite. Italy is playing its best card: Luigi Busà, 33, is already a world legend of the specialty. Two-time world champion and five-time European champion, he will step on the Olympic mat at 10 am (Italian time) to try to put the icing on the cake of his brilliant career in Japan, the homeland of karate. The “Gorilla d’Avola” is more determined than ever and has all the credentials to aim for gold: “If I can express my karate, having fun, there will be none for anyone”. And we believe him.

The challenge

They will be 10 in the category. Anyone would waver to hear high-sounding names like Rafael Aghayev, Stanislav Horuna or Ken Nishimura, among the greats of this weight, but not Luigi who over the years has lined them up one after the other: “I respect everyone and I know it won’t be easy. Then we will also have to be careful of the outsiders who will be aggressive. I am ready, I am well prepared ”. The ending is still to be written, of course, but if it were for the fans of this discipline, the last scene would see Busà vs Agahyev, the Azerbaijani with 5 world gold medals and 11 Europeans, friend / enemy of Luigi since the beginning of the game. his adventure on the mats all over the world: “It would be the right conclusion for our careers. After the many challenges, we could finally define who is the strongest. I can’t wait for that moment to come ”, he said before leaving for the Games. The two have written pages in the history of the discipline, competing for world and European titles. If a football comparison were to be made, Luigi and Rafael would be respectively the Cristiano Ronaldo and the Messi of karate: the triumph of imagination, power and technique, with encounters that have entered the history of the discipline and that will remain forever etched in the mind. lucky ones who were able to admire them in action. Their eternal challenge finds its perfect conclusion in Tokyo, in these Olympics that crown the dream of a lifetime.

Legends

Luigi Busà and Rafael Aghayev have dominated world karate for more than 15 years, they are now living legends of the discipline with palmarès to be envied by anyone: together they boast 7 world and 16 continental gold medals, not to mention the countless international medals. Impressive. One against the other they gave the greatest emotions: bitter enemies on the mat, respectful friends outside. When Luigi and Rafael face each other, and it has happened countless times, it is as if time stops: the building suddenly becomes silent, thousands of heads turn in unison to turn their gaze on that tatami that in an instant is tinged with magic . And there are no more teams or fans, but only the beautiful karate made of respect and hunger for victory, seasoned with spectacular actions that take your breath away and make you jump from the stands. If a credit should be given to these two giants, in addition to the one already conquered on the field, it is knowing how to unite the world of karate under a single flag sewn by the great love and boundless passion for this sport.

Today

The big day has arrived, from 10 the dances of -75 kg open. The Budokan in Tokyo will see Busà and Aghayev compete in the same elimination round consisting of 5 athletes. Only two qualify for the semifinals and the bookmakers are betting everything on the two great rivals who, if so, in the event of a subsequent victory they could then find themselves in that final so dreamed of by fans from all over the world.

From 10 in Italy, off to -75 kg of kumite where the “Gorilla d’Avola” is the big favorite. The expectation is growing for the challenge between the two world legends

Hannah Green during Thursday’s second round of the Olympic women’s golf tournament.

Instagram.com

Hannah Green smiled and held a cup. You know that meme where the cartoon dog is sitting next to a cup and says, “This is fine,” amid a room full of flames? It had come to life.

Fire, figuratively, has surrounded Green and the 59 other women playing in the Olympic women’s golf tournament this week in Japan. Temps have floated around 100. Players went off both tees during Friday’s third round to try to finish before noon. But there Green was on Thursday in a photo snapped by Ian Baker-Finch, her captain on the Australian Olympic golf team.

This was fine.

What gives? While it remains to be seen if Green and fellow Aussie Minjee Lee have ice in their veins during the remainder of the event, they do have slushy in them. And ice vests on them.

“I pretty much used it every opportunity that I got,” Green said of the vests. “It wasn’t so bad the first nine holes, the last nine was definitely starting to get warm, but today I have to make sure I’m doing the right thing, but I also have to think about the next couple days. It won’t be so hot, but I want to make sure that I don’t have to work too hard to get myself back to normal. So very grateful for the team running around everywhere and looking after me and my caddie.”

According to another Instagram post by Baker-Finch, Dr. Corey Cunningham of the Australian Olympic Committee provided Finch and the team the vests and slushies before Thursday’s second round. From there, the team walked around the Kasumigaseki Country Club course with a blue cooler labeled “Do Not Touch,” and Green shot a 65, Lee a 68.

“I used it like two or three times, probably,” Lee of the vest. “Walking around. So I had it on and off just for a short period of time, but I think it was great. It feels good when you have it on.”

Last week, GOLF’s Sean Zak described other inventive measures taken by the Japanese to play golf when temperatures may suggest doing otherwise. But just how hot is it for the professionals? Lee was also asked how the conditions compare to events she’s played around the world.

“It’s just much more humid here,” said Lee, who won the Evian Championship two weeks ago for her first major championship. “But in the Middle East not as, it’s not that hot. I mean, it’s dry heat. And you don’t really feel it as much as like here, where it’s humid like Thailand, Singapore. It’s the humidity. Like the temperature is probably not so bad — it’s just the sun and the humidity.”

“You have to know how to take advantage of opportunities.” Phrase that fits perfectly with what he has been living Alessandro Burlamaqui in his first weeks with him Valencia CF. After leaving Espanyol’s youth team, the Peruvian midfielder decided to join the ranks of the ‘Che’ team. Although his contract was for the affiliate team, the preseason served to earn him a place in the main squad.

This Tuesday he started against AC Milan for the Orange Trophy. He played 69 minutes and left a pleasant impression in the press that covers the whole of José Bordalás.

Pascual Calabuig, a Spanish journalist, spoke with testify and highlighted the pleasant impression that Alessandro Burlamqui has left in the Valencia preseason. He even pointed out that he could have space in the first team.

“After a month of arriving at the club, he has left magnificent sensations. Despite his young age and little experience with professional players, he is competing at the highest level, taking into account the instructions of the coach and his teammates. He is showing himself as a full-fledged footballer “, he specified.

Along the same lines, he added the main virtues that he has seen in the Peruvian footballer: “He does not hesitate to put his leg strong, he competes for all the balls, he shows good tactical ability, forcefulness, character and claw. Little by little he has been gaining the DT’s trust ”.

“Valencia is a team that has signed us footballers for two years and it is likely that they could have a place in the main squad, if no more midfielders arrive. Burlamaqui’s preseason, taking into account that she came from a youth team, would qualify her with ten points ”, he concluded.

The footballers with whom Alessandro Burlamqui competes in his position are: Uros Racic, Daniel Wass and Carlos Soler. The first two have been absent in the preseason games due to physical problems, while the last one is with the Spanish team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

TRUCKEE, California — The afternoon wind didn’t bother Joel Dahmen too much as he blew past the field to take the first-round lead at the Barracuda Championship.

Dahmen, 33, from Clarkston, Washington, scored 16 points in Thursday’s round on the PGA Tour stop at Old Greenwood golf course.

Stephan Jaeger is in second with 14 points and Scott Harrington, who had an eagle on hole No. 8, is in third with 13 points. Michael Thompson and Emiliano Grillo are tied for fourth with 12 points.

Dahmen said it was the best could have played and that his putter made the difference.

Barracuda Championship: Leaderboard

“It’s tough at altitude sometimes. You don’t really know what you’re doing out here. It’s all guess,” Dahmen said. “With the wind blowing the way it was, I didn’t have a number in mind or anything, but I hit some bad shots that turned out great, hit some good shots that turned out good, and my ball just found the hole today.”

He said Old Greenwood is a perfect fit for the Modified Stableford scoring system.

“You can make plenty of birdies and eagles, but there’s doubles out there, as well,” he said.

Thompson said he was trying to stay focused and not get too far ahead of himself. This is his first time playing at Old Greenwood. He played in the Barracuda at Montreux Golf & Country Club in 2018 when he finished in the top 25.

He said Old Greenwood has dried out since the start of the week, likely due to the wind that comes up every afternoon.

“It’s an easier walk than Montreux, which is nice,” Thompson, 36, said. “But this is a beautiful, beautiful part of the country. I’ve never been to Truckee. I didn’t even know this town existed. It’s kind of a treat for me to be out here. And being an Arizona boy at heart, I grew up in dry heat.”

Thompson, who lives in Tucson, figured it will take at least 40 points to win the Barracuda. Richey Werenski won with 39 last year.

Grillo had an eagle on No. 12 to go with four birdies, and three bogeys. He said he’d like to see more tournaments use the Modified Stableford scoring system, saying it seems more like match play.

Roger Sloan is also among the early leaders with 11 points. He said playing at Old Greenwood reminds him of his home courses in Alberta, Canada.

He is turning this week into a mini vacation as his family is staying with him at Northstar-At-Tahoe. They planned to go sightseeing at Lake Tahoe later Thursday.

Spectators make a difference

Mark Anderson is also among the leaders with 10 points going into Friday’s second round. He said the golfers like having spectators back on the course, adding that golfers are also in the entertainment business.

“That’s why we play really,” he said. “It kind of makes it exciting for us to see everybody else. We’ve gotten back to that this year. It’s exciting to see people come out and be enthusiastic about the golf. It’s a really nice, positive change.

“That’s really what we’re doing out here is entertaining. And it’s no fun when I’m struggling or not playing well, when I can’t get anybody to even be too excited about. But hitting great shots and seeing people appreciate that is fun.”

John Daly’s partner makes an ace

Shawn Stefani played in the same group Thursday with John Daly, who tends to draw the largest galleries of the Barracuda each year. Daly did not play at Old Greenwood in 2020.

The grouping paid off as Stefani made a hole-in-one on hole No. 7. The five points he earned there brought him to even for the day.

Stefani, 39, from Bayton, Texas, finished the round with four points and is tied for 54th place. He is ranked No. 241 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Daly finished with minus-nine points.

The format

At the Barracuda, players earn eight points for a double eagle, five points for an eagle, two points for a birdie, no points for a par, minus-one point for a bogey and minus- three points for a double bogey or worse.

How to watch

The Golf Channel will have live coverage of the Barracuda Championship on Friday at 7 a.m. and on Saturday-Sunday from 3-6 p.m.

For the first 70 games of the season, George springer existed primarily as an idea on the horizon with the Toronto blue jays. Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that whoever finishes above Manchester City will be crowned Premier League champions.

Before the new season United have spent £107m on England winger Jadon Sancho and France defender Raphael Varane.

City have responded by smashing the British transfer record in paying Aston Villa £100m for Jack Grealish.

Chelsea may go even higher to sign former United striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

With City still hoping to get England captain Harry Kane to join them from Tottenham and Liverpool signing central defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for £36m to play with fit-again Virgil van Dijk, Solskjaer feels the battle for major honours will be intense.

“This season coming up is one of the strongest Premier League seasons,” he said.

“Of course it’s been City and Liverpool fighting it out for a few years but I feel us and Chelsea have spent well and worked well and we should look at ourselves as potential challengers – but it’s potential.

“You notice that there’s big money being spent somewhere else and you have to keep up with the challenges.

“Anyone who ends up above last year’s champions will be champions.”

Varane is still to have his medical – and he and Sancho are yet to train with their new club.

Jadon Sancho signs for Manchester United

Sancho will link up with the squad back at Carrington when United return from their training camp in St Andrews before Saturday’s friendly with Everton at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer is relaxed about the situation but accepts neither may start the opening Premier League game at home to Leeds on 14 August.

“I need to see how they are,” he said. “I can’t see them being available for Everton but hopefully they will be ready to be on the bench [against Leeds].”

Any more signings ‘a bonus’

Although United are still being linked with new players, including Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, it is understood Solskjaer would need to trim his squad before he could bring anyone else in.

“Anything from now is a bonus,” he said.

However, sales cannot be ruled out. AC Milan are keen for Diogo Dalot to return to the club after spending last year on loan but United are only interested if it involves a firm commitment to sign the Portugal defender permanently.

West Ham would like Jesse Lingard back at London Stadium but it appears the England international would prefer to remain with United for the final year of his contract.

Midfielder Andreas Pereira spent last season at Lazio and did his chances of another loan move no harm with a wonder goal in the 2-2 friendly draw against Brentford at Old Trafford on 28 July.

The key issues centre around Paul Pogba and the goalkeeping department.

Like Lingard, Pogba is about to enter the final year of his contract and the indications are he is more likely to allow it to run down than leave before the 31 August transfer deadline.

But that does mean there is the potential for the France international to sign an extension.

“I hope every player thinks this is the place to be to win trophies,” said Solskjaer. “Paul is always such a positive boy. He has come back and he’s fresh and the talks I’ve had with him have all been positive.”

The goalkeeper situation is ‘healthy’

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea gestures to his teammates
David de Gea made just 26 Premier League appearances last season

Meanwhile, Tom Heaton’s arrival from Aston Villa has added another dimension to the battle between David de Gea and Dean Henderson for the number one goalkeeping slot.

At times last season both seemed to have come out on top. And while it would seem obvious one needs to leave to preserve their international ambitions, there is no obvious move available.

“It’s healthy competition,” said Solskjaer. “If you’re too comfortable, I don’t think you get the best out of yourself. If it’s toxic and it’s energy-sapping that’s not great.

“Last year it was a new situation for David and a new situation for Dean. This year, let’s see how it works out.”

Henderson missed this week’s training camp in Scotland as he recovers from Covid-19, having become the latest United player to test positive.

Solskjaer said United will hold a session with players to discuss vaccinations.

“Yeah, we’ve informed them and some of them are already fully vaccinated, some are not sure,” Solksjaer said. “But we’re going to have a bigger session with them now because I think it’s important that everyone knows what it’s about.”

Despite failing to win a trophy in his first two full seasons as United manager, Solskjaer has been rewarded for the improvement of successive top-four finishes for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement with a new three-year contract.

However, as United themselves have said their overall net spend over the last three summers is higher than any other major club in Europe, there is pressure on the 48-year-old to deliver.

“Maybe the signal of continuity is important for the players as they know this is the way we want to do it,” he said.

“But for me, you have to do well enough to stay anyway. It doesn’t matter if you have a 10-year contract or a one year contract, if you don’t do well, off you go.”
