VIASPACE Press Release

U.S Patent Office Notifies VIASPACE Security of Patent Grant for Explosive Device Detection

PASADENA, CA -June 13, 2007– VIASPACE Inc. (OTCBB: VSPC), a company dedicated to commercializing proven technologies from NASA and the US Department of Defense, announced today that its VIASPACE Security subsidiary has been officially notified by the U.S. Patent Office that patent application No. 11/350693 for Explosive Device Detection Based on Differential Emissivity will be granted.

VIASPACE and VIASPACE Security CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen stated, "A strong patent position is a key part of our strategy. VIASPACE Security, a wholly owned subsidiary of VIASPACE, is pioneering new technologies, products and services based on inference/ expert system and sensor data fusion technologies. VIASPACE Security is building upon a cache of licensed intellectual property (IP) developed at NASA/JPL along with its own internal development efforts and commercial partnerships in the Defense and Homeland Security markets. The allowance of this new patent protects and validates VIASPACE Security's unique capabilities in using and tracking of large volumes of real-time infrared based sensor data. This capability opens the potential to an entirely new generation of applications in defense and homeland defense surveillance that up until now were considered to be prohibitively expensive and difficult to pursue.

This new patent will be integrated with our Caltech licensed real-time inference engine (software platform) called SHINE that was originally developed and used by NASA/JPL for space flight operations. It is intended for systems where speed of inference, portability and reuse are of critical importance. SHINE can process over 300 million rules per second on desktop class computer processors and may deliver over 100X increase in inference speed over the best comparable commercial product, allowing the acquisition, analysis and tracking of objects captured by infrared sensors for surveillance uses to be accomplished in near real time."

The homeland security market continues to demonstrate strong growth, with worldwide procurement spending by governments and the private sector reaching $55 billion for fiscal year 2006, with $31 billion spent by the United States, according to a research report published by Civitas Group LLC ("The Homeland Security Market", November 2006). The firm predicts the market will continue to grow at a steady combined annual growth rate of between 8 and 10%, with the addressable U.S. market projected to be worth approximately $140 billion over the next five years.

About VIASPACE: Originally founded in 1998 with the objective of transforming proven space and defense technologies from NASA and the Department of Defense into hardware and software solutions that solve today's complex problems, VIASPACE benefits from important patent and software licenses from Caltech, which manages NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
