VIASPACE Energy Receives Multi-Unit Order From Major Instrumentation Manufacturer


PASADENA, CA- October 20, 2008-VIASPACE Inc. (OTCBB: VSPC), announced today that that its VIASPACE Energy business unit has received another multi-unit order for its HS-1000 VIASENSOR, a state of the art, laser-based humidity detection instrument. This is a new order for this major customer in Asia, and follows a recent follow-on order from a major automotive customer, also in Asia. The new customer's name is not revealed due to competitive concerns in the $54 billion clean energy market sector.

Dr. Kukkonen, CEO of VIASPACE, commented, "This order is particularly gratifying to us because this customer manufactures a wide line of instrumentation products, and has the potential to place multiple re-orders with us. The units have already been shipped. This customer visited our facility in Pasadena, and made an extensive review of the VIASENSOR. They have also asked for quotations on the HS-2000, our new higher temperature range humidity sensor. This means that they are pleased with the VIASENSOR and confident that it will help their product portfolio."

The VIASENSOR makes real-time measurements of humidity levels in industrial and automotive gas streams for environmental monitoring and process control. Precise humidity levels are crucial in many industrial and commercial applications including baking, steelmaking, fuel cells, and precision automotive exhaust measurements.

The performance of hydrogen fuel cells using a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) depends on the moisture level of the membrane. The membrane only conducts protons when it is hydrated or moist. The moisture is provided by water vapor in the incoming air or hydrogen stream. The VIASENSOR HS-1000 provides real-time measurements of the amount of water vapor in these gas streams. It is the only humidity sensor that provides in-situ, continuous and fast-responding dew point measurement.

Dr. Kukkonen continued, "The VIASENSOR HS-1000 solves the key challenges of accurately measuring the fuel cell humidity levels in both high temperature and high humidity environments. We believe that our product will help our customers optimize their hydrogen fuel cell designs, and perhaps even improved fuel economy of conventional gasoline and diesel fueled automobiles. We have already sold VIASENSORS to major automobile manufacturers and to major fuel cell manufacturing companies such as Ballard and 3M."
